Post-doctoral Position in Reservoir Simulation, Uncertainty Management and Decision Making
Multiple Post-Doctoral positions available at Durham University in collaboration with UNICAMP
Immediate start
Duration of PD Fellowship: 2 years
Applicants are invited to apply for Post-doctoral positions at Durham University (Durham), in collaboration with the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and BG E&P Brazil, a subsidiary of Shell, to study reservoir simulation, uncertainty management and decision making. The positions can be hosted for one-year maximum at Durham. The remaining period will be hold at UNICAMP.
The positions will be based in the world leading Department of Mathematical Sciences, Statistics and Probability group of Professor Michael Goldstein and Dr. Ian Vernon at Durham, with support from the UNISIM Reservoir Simulation and Management group of Professor Denis Schiozer at UNICAMP.
The primary focus areas will be building joint uncertainty models between coarse and fine reservoir simulators. This research topics is highly relevant and highly regarded by the petroleum industry.
Benefits of the program to the selected candidates
- One-year maximum post-doctoral position in reservoir simulation and Bayesian statistics under Profs. Schiozer, Goldstein and Dr. Vernon, with the possibility to continue the research at UNISIM;
- CNPq (Science without Borders) scholarship in Durham with all associated benefits (dependent on CNPq approval) and additional scholarship funding supplied by BG E&P Brazil, a subsidiary of Shell;
- Coverage of full university fees at Durham;
- Provision of additional funds for research related costs;
- Industry contact and access to industry data sets.
Approved candidates requirements
- Positions only available to Brazilian nationals or foreigners with permanent Visas in Brazil;
- PhD thesis in an Engineering, Geoscience or Statistical discipline, preferably Petroleum Engineering, including statistical approach or reservoir simulation;
- Proficiency in English (IELTS certificates or equivalent required) - Language of study will be English;
- Candidates will need to apply for the appropriate visa to work in the UK.
